In the past, even the software-only version came with an astronomical price to match its professional image. This has prevented the application from filtering down to smaller independent videomakers, and Apple’s Final Cut Pro has been nipping at its heels.

Shooting with the RED 4K digital cinema camera

Hands on with what has been described as a "film replacement"

The RED ONE 4K camera feel like a cross between a film camera and a large video camera. It is solidly built, feels and operates like a camera of the highest quality, and works with lenses which would traditionally attach to a 35mm motion picture body. It is an incredible achievement that an independent camera manufacturer has been able to produce a working system which challenges the established players in the world of acquisition. As a company Red Digital Cinema has shaken the world of acquisition like no other camera system before it. The ability to shoot 4K, the same resolution as 35mm film, at a price-point unseen in the history of filmmaking, has made this system redefine the standard for feature film production.

Red Giant Software buys video plug-in range from Digital Anarchy

Acquisition adds six new products to Red Giant product-line

Red Giant Software has agreed to acquire the video plug-in portfolio of Digital Anarchy, a San Francisco-based plug-in developer.

Abaltat Muse - music creation software

Royalty music, custom-scored to your images, written by a computer

Abaltat Muse is now now available as version 2 of the software. Inside the camera was tape from the previous day of shooting and footage for a paying client worth £1000. Without that tape no footage, no invoice, no payment. A long distance call to the insurance company, an explanation of what happened with a further explanation that the only way of getting the tape out of the dead camera was with a screw driver. Time on the phone, careful negotiations and the insurance company agreed to let the shooter take a screw driver to the mechanism. It was like mutilating a dead carcass but it had to be done. No gentle prying, more like an absolute gouging to get the little HDV tape out. Still threaded amongst the heads which would never run again, the tape was extracted. Creased tape gently wound back into the cassette - another crisis averted and the job now able to be finished.

Sonnet Fusion F2 - powered eSata on the move

Innovative solution for those who need portable eSata RAID

For those needing high-speed transfer of data eSata the Sonnet Fusion 2 presents a solution which is reliable and faster than either FireWire 800/400 or USB.
